FOUNTAINS OF PIAZZA ROTONDA - DIPTYCH, ORIGINAL ART
Artwork #1: Fountains of Piazza Rotonda - Diptych, Original Art | Series 4: Architecture
During one of the many all-nighters for the artist during his architectural program, this two panels detail study of the fountains in Piazza Rotonda, painted while studying abroad in Rome, was his favorite one. Artist knocked on local resident's doors at strategic locations, to ask permission to sketch and photograph the Piazza from higher ground windows. He also thought of collecting water from the fountains, to be used later for his watercolors painting of the two art pieces.
As described in handwriting by the artist at the bottom cross section view, the artist's goal was to study and create a distinction between the two fountains in the Piazza Rotonda. One, the obvious larger one, designed by Giacomo Della Porta in 1578, with the replacement of the original central cup, to its current obelisk in 1711. The second fountain, the small drinking pedestrian fountain. Both fountains provide a unique character defining each side of this historic plaza.
Art Features:
- Both diptych "panels" are created symmetrically from each other, each dedicated to one fountain, and joined by the bottom cross section of the plaza.

- Larger view on right panel 2, shows a detailed aerial view of the Piazza and surrounding building blocks.
- Smaller views in both panels document details of each fountain. From floor plans at the bottom corners, to fountain cross sections, detailed elevation and corresponding shield/ logo for each, at the top corners.
- Fountains flowing waters from both panels help to dramatize and joined the composition.
